The Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Rural Sciences and Food Systems is a three-year full-time day course with a total of 180 ECTS (credits). The course includes several areas ranging from the basic rural sciences (cell biology, biochemistry, chemistry, soil, water, microbiology and genetics) to more applied rural sciences (farm animals, crops, biotechnology, herb science, aquaculture and food systems). Other aspects include analytical skills in measurement (physics, mathematics, modelling and data mining/management/processing), Mediterranean Agro-ecosystems resource management, policy and regulation (economics, marketing, policies, legislation and environmental stewardship). During the course, you will have the opportunity to participate in an Erasmus+ mobility programme for a more diverse and multicultural academic journey. In your final year, you will be able to demonstrate your acquired knowledge by carrying out a research-based dissertation.
The communication and academic skills programme complements students’ main course of study. It introduces them to writing and presenting as situated within academic contexts sensitive to specific disciplines and develops their competences for future careers.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2019 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of the Bachelor of Science (Hons) - B.Sc. (Hons) - in Rural Sciences and Food Systems under the auspices of the Institute of Earth Systems.
By the end of the course, you will:
Have a sound multidisciplinary scientific basis.
Possess the appropriate professional knowledge to manage and consult on technical and economic aspects of the field.
Understand the principles related to the field.
Effectively discuss concepts and theories about Mediterranean Agro-ecosystems Management.
Carry out reports by using the appropriate lexical knowledge related to the field and apply that knowledge to practice.

You may also pursue further studies locally or abroad on completion of this course.
